Massa fastest on first day of Silverstone test
LONDON: Ferraris Felipe Massa set the pace in testing for next weeks British Grand Prix on Tuesday, less than two days after winning in France to take the Formula One championship lead for the first time.
The Brazilian, who leads BMW Saubers Robert Kubica by two points, did 71 laps of the Silverstone circuit with a best time of one minute 20.188 seconds.
McLarens Heikki Kovalainen did 90 laps and was second fastest in 1:20.477 with Kubica third in 1:20.995 according to unofficial timings.
Ferraris Kimi Raikkonen won at Silverstone last year on his way to the title and the Finn, now third in the championship, will take over from Massa today for the final day of testing for the July 6 race.
We expect to be really competitive at Silverstone, Raikkonen said on the Ferrari website (www.ferrariworld.com). I like the track and I have fond memories of it. Reuters
