Olympic champ Wanjiru for Abu Dhabi race
LONDON: Kenya’s Olympic marathon winner Sammy Wanjiru and Eritrean world half-marathon champion Zersenay Tadese head the men’s line-up for the Zayed International half-marathon in Abu Dhabi on Jan 7, organisers said on Monday.
Wanjiru, winner of this year’s London and Chicago marathons, is the world record-holder over the half-marathon distance with a time of 58:33, set in 2007.
Former world cross country champion Lorna Kiplagat of Holland will compete in the women’s race.
The half-marathon takes place on the Yas Marina Circuit which hosts the final race of the Formula One season, and the winners will receive US$300,000. — Reuters
