Terengganu keeper dashes Selangor’s quadruple hopes
By ERIC SAMUEL
KOTA BARU: Terengganu goalkeeper Sharbinee Allawaee single-handedly dashed Selangor’s quadruple hopes when he starred in the east coast team’s 5-4 penalty shoot-out win in the Malaysia Cup quarter-finals at the Sultan Mohd Ismail Stadium in Kuala Terengganu last night.
The two teams, who drew 1-1 in the first-leg, again battled out a similar stalemate last night.
Terengganu’s up-and-coming striker Abdul Manaf Mamat put the home team in front in the 12th minute but R. Surendran equalised for the Red Giants in the 62nd minute to take the game into extra time.
And, when that too failed to break the deadlock, it was time for Sharbinee’s heroics in the penalty shoot-out.

In the shoot-out, Khairul Anuar Baharum, Razman Roslan, Mohd Amri Yahyah and Mohd Safee Sali were on target for Selangor while Zairo Anuar Zalani, Ashaari Shamsuddin, Abdul Manaf Mamat, Shahrizam Mohd converted for the Turtles.
It was indeed a night of joy for both the east coast teams as neighbours Kelantan also joined them in the semi-finals, together with Negri Sembilan and Perlis.
In Kota Baru, Kelantan – known as the Red Warriors – turned on a dazzling display in front of a sell-out 25,000 crowd at the Sultan Mohd IV Stadium to beat KL Plus FC 3-0 for a 4-1 aggregate win.
Kelantan went ahead in the 10th minute when Indra Putra Mahayuddin was fouled by KL Plus goalkeeper Razi Effandi Suhit. Indra picked himself up and easily converted the penalty.
Mohd Norfarhan Mohd then sealed the game with two quick kills in the 84th and 86th minutes.
Kelantan’s semi-final opponents will be Perlis, who brushed aside Johor FC 2-0 at Stadium Utama in Kangar for a 4-1 aggregate win.
Amar Rohidan (eighth minute) and Mohd Nizaruddin Yusop (48th) got the goals for Perlis.
Terengganu will face Negri Sembilan, who had little difficulty cruising into the last four after they defeated Kuala Muda Naza 3-0 at the Darulaman Stadium in Alor Setar for a 5-0 aggregate victory.
Negri took the lead through Mohd Shukor Adan in the 21st minute before Mohd Zaquan Adha doubled their lead seven minutes later from the penalty spot.
Shahurain Abu Samah added another goal for the Deer in the 36th minute.
