Iraqi archery team lose their passports at LCCT
By SHAMSHUL FITRI
KUALA LUMPUR: The Iraqi archery team preparing for the Asian Championships in Bali from Nov 16-21 suffered the loss of a bag containing their passports at the Low Cost Carrier Terminal (LCCT) in Sepang on Monday.
The four-man team arrived here for a training stint at the National Sports Council (NSC) Complex in Keramat after competing in the fifth leg of the Asian Grand Prix in Bangladesh last week.
One of the team members, Mohammed Ali Fayyadh, said that he noticed that the bag was missing when they were boarding a taxi to KL.
“The bag, which also contained a laptop computer, mobile phones and flight tickets home to Baghdad, was on the trolley after we passed the immigration checkpoint,” said Mohammed, who is also the vice-president of the Iraqi Archery Association.
“I immediately made a police report after finding that the bag was missing.”
He added that the police at the LCCT helped them to look for the bag but their efforts were all in vain.
Mohammed said the team’s preparation had suffered psychologically as they were hoping for a smooth training stint in Malaysia prior to the championships in Bali.
“We were lucky that we did not lose our archery equipment. Otherwise, our participation in Bali would all be over before the championships could even begin,” he said.
“I hope those who have found our passports would return them to the Iraqi Embassy in KL.”
