Idris-Zaquan a lethal combination for the Deer in Malaysia Cup
PETALING JAYA: Negri Sembilan’s on-loan striker Hairuddin Omar is down with a hip injury but the Deer will not be short of ammunition in their Group B top-of-the-table Malaysia Cup clash against Terengganu at the Sultan Mohd Ismail Stadium in Kuala Terengganu tonight.
Coach Wan Jamak Wan Hassan seems to have come up with a successful formula when he switched midfielder Idris Karim to partner Mohd Zaquan Adhan Abdul Razak in attack.
The result was evident when the duo scored five goals between them in the 8-0 thrashing of Sarawak at the Tuanku Abdul Rahman Stadium in Paroi on Tuesday.
“We are doing well despite the unexpected injury to Hairuddin in the opening game last week,” said Wan Jamak.
Hairuddin, who is on loan from T-Team Terengganu, saw only 40 minutes of action against Johor when he was stretchered out with a hip injury. Negri won the game 2-1.
The former national striker is undergoing rehabilitation at a private hospital in Seremban and he is hoping to make a return soon.
“I have been told to rest for a week and I can’t wait to get back,” said Hairuddin.
Negri lead Group B with six points, with Terengganu second on goal difference. Struggling Johor and Sarawak are without a point after two games.
