Cracking start for Malaysian cagers
KUALA LUMPUR: Defending champions Malaysia got off to a cracking start in the second Malaysia International Basketball Championships when they defeated debutants China Zhuhai Duty Free Enterprise Group 85-60 at the Maba Stadium here last night.
Malaysia started off aggressively and led 39-28 after the second quarter. And they kept up the pressure to win the match by a 25-point margin. Koh Way Tek was the top scorer for Malaysia with 16 points.
Coach Goh Cheng Huat was delighted over the determined performance of his players.
“This is a good start for us and a big boost ahead of an expected tough match against the Hong Kong national team tomorrow (today),” he said.
Hong Kong, who are preparing for the East Asian Games, which they will host in December, defeated Korea Chosun University 81-68 yesterday.
Chinese Taipei Pure Youth Construction, meanwhile, served early warning to other teams when they hammered Philippines Pharex 108-68.
