Bali win lifts Rezai in world rankings
PARIS: France’s Aravane Rezai (pic) moved up 18 places in the latest WTA rankings released on Monday after her victory at the weekend in the Bali Tournament of Champions.
Rezai claimed her second career trophy with a 7-5 win as fellow Frenchwoman Marion Bartoli quit with a thigh injury after the first set on Sunday.
Rezai moves up to a career-high world number 26.
Beaten finalist and French number one Bartoli overtakes Italy’s Flavia Pennetta to end the year as number 11.
Belgian Yanina Wickmayer, who last week received a one-year ban by the Flemish Doping Tribunal for falling foul of doping regulations, has moved up two places to a career-high number 16.
The 20-year-old Wickmayer, who burst onto the scene in September with a run into the US Open semi-finals, claimed her second Tour title in Linz last month after winning in Estoril earlier this year.
