Zulmazran: Who says that lane conditions will be easy?

IT COULD have been better but bowler Zulmazran Zulkifli is not worried after finishing the first block of eight games in fifth place yesterday.

The flamboyant bowler was bowling fine in his first five games before suffering a hiccup in the sixth to put him in 13th place coming into the sixth game.

“My mistake was not paying attention to changes they have made to the lane during my sixth game, which costs me dearly,” he said.

In his first five games, the Malaysian Open champion fired lines of 230-245-214-203-228 before the sixth game slip with a 176.

“I struggled to adjust to the lane conditions during the sixth game and I will make sure I don’t repeat the same mistake tomorrow (today),” he said.

Zulmazran added that they could now dismiss the general perception about the easy lane conditions.

“Everybody was talking about how easy the lanes were and how it’s going to be a high-scoring event. Just look at where Walter Ray (Williams Jr) is placed and tell me if it’s easy,” he said.

American pro Williams Jr struggled in 34th place on 1,617.

Malaysian woman Siti Safiyah Amirah Abdul Rahman, meanwhile, was clearly frustrated with her performance today as she had hoped to finish the eighth game with much higher score than 178.

“A split in the fourth frame and an open sixth frame dragged my scores down.

“It could have been a better game for me,” she said. “I was having good games earlier on but when I switched lanes, the conditions were different and I had to make some adjustments to my throws.”

The reigning World Ranking Masters champion hoped to channel all her frustrations for today’s games and put her higher up in the qualifying field.
