Berlin meet set a new record for world records
LAUSANNE: The two-day World Cup meeting in Berlin produced a new record for world records with 16 new best times set over two days, world governing body FINA said on Sunday.
In the first day of the German meeting, six new global marks were established, while Sunday’s second day was highlighted by 10 more world records.
“Never before in the history of the FINA Swimming World Cup, was such a number of world records set in a single meet,” said a FINA statement.
After four of the five meetings, a total of 34 world records have been set with the last round to be held in Singapore on Nov 21 and 22.
The vast majority of the weekend records were set by athletes wearing the high-tech swimsuits which will be banned from Jan 1, 2010. — AFP
