Masters Finalsin Terengganu
TERENGGANU will host the 2009 BWF Super Series Masters Finals next month.
It will be the second year running that Malaysia will stage the season-ending championships after Kota Kinabalu played hosts to the inaugural event.
Although it was known for some time that Malaysia will stage the Finals, the decision to hold the championships at the Gong Badak Indoor Stadium in Kuala Terengganu from Dec 2-6 was only confirmed in Alor Setar yesterday.
The Badminton World Federation (BWF) deputy president, Paisan Rangsipitkho, said that Kuala Terengganu was chosen over Kuala Lumpur, Johor Baru and Alor Setar because it had yet to host an international badminton tournament.
“We could not disclose the venue for the Finals earlier because negotiations with the title sponsors were still going on,” he said.
“Although BWF have agreed that Terengganu will host the Finals, it is subject to venue inspection,” said Paisan, who was aware of the stadium roof collapse incident at the Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin Stadium in the Gong Badak Sports Complex.
