Table tennis teams move up one rung
PETALING JAYA: Malaysia’s men and women’s teams moved one rung up in their Asian rankings after completing their challenges in the team competition of the Asian Table Tennis Championships in Lucknow, India, on Wednesday.
The men’s team, led by SEA Games-bound Mohd Shakirin Ibrahim, finished 12th while the women’s team, led by Beh Lee Wei, came in 10th.
It was one step better than their previous Asian rankings of 13th and 11th respectively.
In the individual competition, Lee Wei is the sole survivor in the women’s singles event when she defeated Yasin Sadia of Pakistan 11-3, 11-1, 11-4, 11-3 to check into the second round.
