Ronaldo questions Real credentials
LONDON: Cristiano Ronaldo has questioned whether his new club Real Madrid are ready to win the Champions League.
“I don’t know if we are ready to win the Champions League. We are trying to take things one step at a time,” said Ronaldo.
“Barcelona play better football but that is because they have been together for several seasons, not just for a few months. With this Real team we have been together for a few months.
“I was at United for six seasons. In those six seasons I got to know my team-mates. Every season we made progress and understood each other better.”
Crocked: Cristiano Ronaldo leaving after meeting Van Dijk on Tuesday. — Reuters The £80mil buy is also no closer to a comeback and will be out for at least another two weeks from his ankle injury after consulting Dutch specialist Prof Niek van Dijk, the man who operated on his right ankle while at Old Trafford last year.
Real have struggled badly in his absence, with coach Manuel Pellegrini coming under huge pressure following high-profile defeats to Milan, Seville and lowly Alcorcon in the Spanish Cup.
His former doctor Van Dijk, “confirmed the diagnosis given by the medical team of Real Madrid obtained after MRI and CT scans” on Tuesday.
Van Dijk will re-examine him in another 15 days, Real said in a statement on their website.
Dutch physician Van Dijk has also treated Ronaldo’s team-mate Ruud van Nistelrooy and AC Milan striker Filippo Inzaghi.
Ronaldo will definitely miss their Madrid derby meeting with city rivals Atletico today in the Primera Liga.
He will also be unavailable to play for Portugal in their World Cup qualifying matches against Bosnia on Nov 14 in Lisbon and in Zenica four days later. — Agencies
