Fauzi bags bronze in Asian Mountain Bike meet
PETALING JAYA: Mohd Fauzi Aim boosted his chances of making the final squad for next month’s Laos SEA Games when he secured a bronze in the men’s junior downhill event in the Asian Mountain Bike Championships in Malacca yesterday.
Fauzi chalked up the third fastest time of 3:05.688 to deliver the hosts’ only medal on the first competition day.
Japan’s Shimizu Kazuki took gold in 2:56.011, ahead of Indonesian Atosma Katana (2:57.230).
Malaysia’s Norshahriel Ahmad Nazali (3:09.871) was fourth in the field of 21 cyclists.
In the men’s elite downhill event, Malaysia’s Stanley Jalip finished sixth in 2:55.575.
Malaysian riders were outclassed in the women’s elite downhill as Othman Norsyuhaini and Masziyaton Mohd Razdi finished seventh and eighth respectively.
