Negri line up programmes to celebrate historic Cup victory

SEREMBAN: The State government and the Negri Sembilan Football Association (NSFA) are lining up a programme to celebrate their team’s historic Malaysia Cup victory.

Chairman of the Human Capital Development, Youth and Sports committee Abd Samad Ibrahim said programmes to celebrate the victory of the state’s Malaysia Cup victory after 61 years, would be held in every district.

“I will meet Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan who is also the Negri FA president, to discuss the programme for the Malaysia Cup victory parade.

“Apart from celebrating the victory, the parade is also aimed at generating interest among the younger generation,” he said after presenting

awards to winners at the Negri Sembilan State Sports Awards here yesterday.

Negri, who ended a 61-year wait to win the Malaysia Cup after having won the HMS Malaya Cup in 1948, beat Kelantan 3-1 in the final on Saturday at the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil.

Abd Samad said the victory, after suffering defeats in the 2000 and 2006 finals to Perlis and Perak, was also a special gift to newly crowned Yang di-Pertuan Besar Negri Sembilan, Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir, on Oct 26. — Bernama
