Chance for students to rub shoulders with F1 teams
PETALING JAYA: Students behold. The Sepang International Circuit (SIC) are offering not one or two but eight spots in a chance-of-a-lifetime Fun Kart race against F1 teams, GP2 Asia and Formula BMW Pacific sides ahead of the Petronas Malaysian F1 Grand Prix from April 3-5.
The SIC will have their first F1 Fun Kart Race at the Sepang Go-Kart Circuit on April 2 and the opportunity is open to all colleges and universities in Malaysia.
Each institution of higher learning is allowed to send a maximum of 10 students for the challenge. Entries will be on a first-come-first-served basis.
There will be two qualifying sessions on March 21 and 28. The top three finishers of each heat qualify for the race proper.
The SIC media manager, Irwan A. Rahman, said that it was a great opportunity for the students to get closer to their racing heroes and teams and also learn racing first-hand.
“This year marks the 11th anniversary of the circuit and with a new image as we approach the next decade, we have put more emphasis on our social responsibility,” he said.
“The SIC is also the Home of Malaysian Motorsports and the programme falls under the ‘Taking Motorsports to Schools’. It’s only natural to allow students this opportunity absolutely free of charge.”
Irwan urged college and university representatives to log on to www.sepangcircuit.com for more info on the registration. The application documents can also be downloaded from the website or by e-mail at
