Cycling: Fauzan back in the saddle after being out for four months
KUALA LUMPUR: National rider Mohd Fauzan Ahmad Lutfi will be back in action in the Tour of Malaysia road race after four months out with a knee injury.
After winning the National Championships last August, Fauzan sat out the early part of the year to recover from his injury.
The eight-stage Tour of Malaysia, from April 19-25, will cover a distance of 1,240km. The first stage is expected to be from Kuala Selangor to Ipoh.
“I have only been training for a week and I don’t have any high expectations for the Tour of Malaysia,” said Fauzan, who has just started his Sports Science course at the Open University Malaysia.
“I will double my efforts in training to ensure victory for the national team.”
The other riders in the national team are Suhardi Hassan, Mohd Faris Abdul Razak, Mohd Rauf Nur Misbah, Ahmad Fallanie Ali and Wan Mohd Najmee Wan Mohd.
The 23-year-old Fauzan, who is from Penang added that it would an uphill task to win the Tour, which will feature two Category One climbs.
Fauzan acknowledged that it would be tough to beat teams like Iran, Jelly Belly Cycling Team of the USA and Savings & Loan Cycling Team of Australia “as they have outstanding riders”.
