Malaysian Cub Prix to feature new category just for privateers
KUALA LUMPUR: This year’s Petronas AAM Malaysian Cub Prix Championships will have a new category solely for the privateers.
This is to give privateers the chance to compete on a level playing field against riders from the big teams.
It is open to riders aged between 17 and 45 with a valid National C (Novice) Competition Licence issued by the Automobile Association of Malaysia (AAM) or the Motorsports Association of Malaysia (MAM).
The other categories in the championships are Expert, Novice and Wira epg.
Ron Hogg, the promotions director of Safe Aim Mutual Sdn Bhd, said the new class would be the best channel for privateers to showcase their talents as it had been specifically tailored for them.
“I am certain there are many competent underbone riders out there and we do not want these talents to go to waste,” said Hogg.
“As funding is central to their participation, this category will run on lower specs, which translates into affordability.”
The winner of the privateer class will receive RM600 and a trophy. The second- and third-placed riders will each get RM400 and RM250 and a trophy.
The fourth- and fifth-placed riders will get RM200 and RM150 respectively.
Entry fees for early registration is RM50 while on-the-spot registration at the race venue is RM100.
The first-leg of the championships will be in Alor Setar from March 20-21.
