Japanese sprinter fights off Amir to win Stage One
IPOH: Japanese sprinter Makoto Iijima of the Bridgestone Anchor team won Stage One of the Tour of Malaysia cycling race, the 176.8km Kuala Selangor to Ipoh route yesterday.
Iijima clocked 3’59:55 in the stage and had to muster all his strength to fight off Amir Zargari of the Azad University Continental Team, who also clocked the same time.
Malaysia’s Ahmad Haidar Anuawar of Trek Marco Polo Cycling Team was 34 seconds adrift from the leading duo and settled for third place.
Haidar was the best Malaysian finisher yesterday. — Bernama
