Fun Go-Kart race before the grind
THE mean and powerful F1 machines will only get on the track today for a free practice session but Sepang has already hosted a race.
The F1 teams, GP2 Asia and Formula BMW Pacific drivers participated in the F1 Fun Go-Kart race at the Sepang Go Kart Circuit yesterday.
Besides Force India F1’s test driver Tonio Liuzzi and BMW Sauber’s test and reserve driver Christian Klien, other big names on the grid were former F1 driver Martin Brundle, SIC chairman Datuk Mokhzani Mahathir and chief executive officer Razlan Razali.
Various Malaysian GP pre-event contest winners, students search finalists and members of the media also took part in the race.
Other competing drivers were GP2 Asia drivers Javier Villa, Luiz Razia and Formula BMW Pacific driver Fahmi Ilyas.
Meanwhile, the 5.543km Sepang F1 Circuit received the thumbs up to host the Malaysian GP from the FIA F1 race director and safety delegate Charlie Whiting after an inspection yesterday.
