Bryan’s hopes of top 10 finish in KF2 race dashed
PETALING JAYA: Hopes of a top 10 finish fizzled out for Malaysian karter Bryan Mehta when he was involved in an incident in the final stages of the CIK-FIA Asia Pacific KF2 Championships at the Suzuka Karting Circuit in Japan yesterday.
The 14-year-old was in ninth spot when his kart was hit by another kart on lap 16 and was immediately relegated to the tail-end of the 24-lap race.
He managed to recover but it was too late and he eventually finished 27th out of 34 drivers, 25.331seconds behind the winner Tiene Felice of Italy.
Bryan started the final from 10th spot after finishing in the same order in the pre-final earlier. Bryan, who won the Japan KF2 Kart Championships two weeks ago, is competing for Birel Motorsports Team under a Toyota sponsorship programme and is managed by A1 Team Malaysia driver Aaron Lim.
