Toluca gets a comfortable 4-1 win over Tigres

MEXICO CITY (AP) - Chilean striker Hector Mancilla scored a hat trick to lead defending champion Toluca to a comfortable 4-1 win over a Tigres team facing relegation with just one round remaining in the Mexican Clausura*s regular season.

Playing in front of empty stands at Nemesio Diez stadium because of the swine flu outbreak, Mancilla missed a penalty on the 34th minute, but made up for his error with strikes in the 50th, 71st and 76th minutes.

Mancilla brought his league tally to 12, behind the tournament*s scoring leader Salvador Cabanas of Paraguay with 14.

"The main thing is to get the victory, the scoring title is important, but the team is first, hopefully we can win back to back titles," Mancilla said.

Israel Lopez opened the scoring in the 23rd minute for Toluca, which qualified to the playoffs last weekend and is looking for the best record of the Clausura.

Pachuca, a 5-1 winner over Jaguares on Saturday, is the current leader with 30 points - the same as Toluca, but with a better goal average.

Francisco Fonseca scored in the 54th minute for Tigres, who stayed on 13 points and will vie with Necaxa to avoid relegation.

Monterrey is third with 26 points, despite a 3-2 loss at home on Saturday at the hands of America, who had two goals from Cabanas.

Tigres control its destiny and will remain on Mexico*s top flight with a win over Morelia next Saturday.

Necaxa, who drew Atlante 1-1 on Saturday, plays America.

Also on Sunday, at Torreon, Santos beat San Luis 3-1 to stay alive on the playoff hunt.

Argentine Daniel Luduena put the home side ahead in the 62nd minute, Agustin Herrera followed in the 71st and Walter Jimenez sealed the win in the 85th for Santos, who got a third win in their last four matches to reach 22 points and now need to beat Atlante in the last round to qualify without help.
