Heavier car but Lotterer is still confident of podium finish
By SHAMSHUL FITRI
PETALING JAYA: Despite having to drive the second heaviest car in the fourth round of Japan’s Super GT race on Sunday, Lexus Team Petronas Tom’s Andre Lotterer will put up a fight for a podium finish at the Sepang circuit.
Currently in second position after three rounds of the championships, the team’s cars will have to carry a 60kg handicap weight.
“Of course our target is always to win. But finishing in the top three is a more realistic result for me,” said Lotterer yesterday.
Lotterer has Juichi Wakisaka as his team-mate for the GT500 class of the championships.
“Even though we have to race with a heavier car, the difference from other cars is just around 10kg to 20kg and we are riding on a high confidence with the team’s preparations,” he said.
Yesterday also saw the unveiling of the new trophies for the round made specially by Tumasek Pewter.
The presentation of the trophies was done by the SIC chief executive officer, Razlan Razali, and the chairman of Super GT, Masaaki Bandoh.
For the race this weekend, 33 teams from GT500 and GT300 classes will compete for 54 laps.
The event will also see support races from Formula V6 Asia, GT3 Asia and Aston Martin Cup Asia.
