Motorcycle Racing: Chalermpol in command of first qualifying session with record time
PETALING JAYA: Thailand’s Chalermpol Polamai was in total control of the first qualifying session in the third-leg of the 2009 Petronas Asia Road Racing Championship at the Sentul International Circuit in Indonesia yesterday.
The Petronas Sprinta Yamaha Thailand rider even set a new qualifying record of 1:32.326 in the SuperSports 600cc class, eclipsing the mark Malaysian Ahmad Fuad Baharuddin set last year by 0.662 seconds.
Chalermpol’s team-mate, Decha Kraisart was second quickest in 1:32.427, followed by Petronas Sprinta Yamaha Malaysia rider Azlan Shah Kamaruzaman (1:32.522). Fuad was fourth fastest in 1:32.796, ahead of Mohd Zamri Baba (1:32.871).
In the Underbone 115cc class, Indonesian riders stole the show with Hadi Wijaya of Kawasaki ELF IRC NHK Rextor M-Tech the quickest when he stopped the clock at 1:59.516. His compatriot Wahyu Widodo of Suzuki U Mild AHRS was the second fastest (1:59.825) followed by Hadi’s team-mate, Ardhy Satya S (2:00.019).
The best Malaysian rider was Petronas Sprinta Raceline’s Mohd Iskandar Raduan, who was fifth fastest in 2:00.181.
