Razif quarantined for two days
PETALING JAYA: World Championships-bound doubles shuttler Mohd Razif Abdul Latif was admitted to Seremban hospital Tuesday after coming down with high fever.
Razif, who competed in three consecutive championships last month, has been placed under quarantine for two days by the hospital authorities as a suspected case of A (H1N1) flu.
Coach Rosman Razak said that Razif came down with fever first at the Singapore Open.
“He was not in good health too in the following Indonesia Open and he even vomited on court when he played in the Malaysian Open Grand Prix Gold championships in Johor Baru last week,” he said.
“His temperature rose again after he got back and he checked into the hospital in his hometown.
“I spoke to him today and he said the doctor had taken his blood sample and he will know the result in two days’ time.
“They will take another blood sample after two days even if the fever had gone down, just to make sure. I hope it’s nothing serious.”
It could be worse if Razif is tested positive as it could force all activities of the national badminton squad to grind to a halt because all the players who came into contact with him will be quarantined as well.
In the Malaysian Open Grand Prix Gold, Razif partnered Chan Peng Soon to reach the men’s doubles quarter-finals before bowing out to former national players Gan Teik Chai-Tan Bin Shen.
He is down to partner Woon Khe Wei in the mixed doubles for the world championships, which will be held in Hyderabad from Aug 10-16.
Malaysia have three other mixed doubles pairs in the championships — Koo Kien Keat-Ng Hui Lin, Chan Peng Soon-Goh Liu Ying and Sabrina Chong-Ong Jien Guo.
