Rangers accept Birmingham’s bid for Ferguson
LONDON: Scottish champions Rangers on Wednesday accepted a bid from English Premier League newcomers Birmingham City for veteran midfielder Barry Ferguson.
The 31-year-old will discuss terms with Birmingham, who are coached by former Rangers and Scotland boss Alex McLeish, on the deal which is believed to be worth £1mil.
Ferguson has already played in the English top flight with Blackburn Rovers.
The former international stalwart has enjoyed his fair share of success and endured controversy in recent years.
He was fined and stripped of the Rangers captaincy last season following a breach of discipline while on Scotland duty in April after a World Cup qualifying defeat by Holland in Amsterdam.
The late night drinking incident at a Loch Lomond Hotel also led to an end to his international career.
Ferguson was dropped by Rangers manager Walter Smith but returned for their last three games of the season as they won back the Premier League from Celtic for the first time in four years.
The former Ibrox youth player was also in the Rangers side that lifted the Scottish Cup with a 1-0 win over Falkirk at Hampden. — AFP
