Luxemburgo to take charge of Santos for the fourth time
RIO DE JANEIRO: Former Real Madrid and Brazil coach Vanderlei Luxemburgo has agreed to take charge of Santos, the Brazilian club said.
“Santos FC agreed to hire trainer Vanderlei Luxemburgo. The agreement will be made formal on Monday,” the club said on their official Twitter feed (
twitter.com/sfc_oficial).
It will be Luxemburgo’s fourth stint as Santos coach.
He left them the last time at the end of 2007 after steering them to two successive Paulista (Sao Paulo state) titles.
“I’m very happy to be returning to this great club with which I feel strongly identified,” Luxemburgo said on his personal website.
Luxemburgo was sacked three weeks ago by Palmeiras over differences with the club’s board concerning striker Keirrison’s negotiations for a transfer to Barcelona.
He will replace Vagner Mancini who was sacked last Monday following a 6-2 defeat by Vitoria, Santos’ fifth match without a victory.
They are 11th in the Brazilian championship standings with three wins in 11 matches. — Reuters
