Fairuz grabs fourth spot in Race 2 of Renault World Series
PETALING JAYA: Malaysia’s Fairuz Fauzy romped to a fourth placing in Race 2 of the World Series by Renault in Le Mans, France, yesterday.
Fairuz, of Mofaz-Fortec team, completed the 30-lap race in 46:23.555 to finish behind third-placed Jaime Alguersari.
Alguersari, who grabbed the last podium spot for Carlin Motorsport in 46:12.394, has been confirmed as the new driver for Toro Rosso in Formula One – taking over from Sebastian Bourdais.
Miguel Molina of Ultimate Motorsport was second in 46:09.784 while Betrand Baguette of International Draco Racing took the chequered flag in 46:08.636.
Fairuz started from second on the grid by virtue of the reverse grid regulations after taking seventh spot in Race 1 on Saturday.
The London-based driver thus completed the sixth round on a good note, scoring point finishes in both races after struggling in qualifying earlier.
Fairuz, who was one of the drivers selected to take part in the Renault F1 Orientation programme at their base in Enstone, England, recently, will be looking to bag his fourth podium finish in the next round in Portugal in a fortnight.
