Bambang wants Malaysians to play in Indonesian League

PETALING JAYA: Indonesian hot-shot Bam­bang Pamungkas is looking forward to players from Asia, including Malaysia, featuring in the Indonesian League from next season.

The former Selangor striker said this was because two out of the five import players allowed to play in the Indonesian League from next season would have to be from Asia.

“This is an opportunity for players from Singapore, Malaysia and other neighbouring countries to try their luck with Indonesian clubs,” Bambang said at the Yayasan FAS in Kelana Jaya yesterday.

He said Malaysian players had good potential and should be able to make the grade in the Indonesian League.

Bambang and compatriot Elie Aiboy featured for Selangor for two seasons in 2005 and 2006. They stamped their mark in 2005 when Selangor, under coach Dollah Salleh, won the treble – Premier League Cup, FA Cup and Malaysia Cup.

The duo are back and will be donning Se­­langor colours again as guest players in the inaugural Selangor Cup match against Persib Bandung of Indonesia at the Shah Alam Stadium tomorrow.

Selangor coach K. Devan said Bambang and Ellie would start in the first team.

Meanwhile tickets for for tomorrow’s Se­­lan­­gor Cup invitational match between the Selangor Selection and Persib Bandung (8.45pm) will be on sale at the Shah Alam Stadium from today.
