Morocco give Lemerre the boot
RABAT: France’s Euro 2000 winning coach Roger Lemerre was sacked on Tuesday as coach of the Moroccan national team just a year after being appointed, a senior member of the Moroccan Football Federation said.
The 68-year-old, who was also sacked by France after they exited in the first round of the 2002 World Cup when they were defending champions, was slammed by the official for his general behaviour.
“He (Lemerre) failed in his mission and the public no longer want him in the post,” the official said.
“Therefore, added to the difficult relations he has with the press, we are in the middle of discussing terms for his departure.
“The sports authorities are really disappointed by the work done by Lemerre at the head of a team in a country where football is considered king.” — AFP
