Moneybags City get Cup date at Palace
LONDON: Tottenham will start their bid to reach the Carling Cup final for a third successive season with a second-round tie at Second Divison club Doncaster.
Harry Redknapp’s team lost 4-1 on penalties against Manchester United after a goalless draw at Wembley in March, a year after winning the competition with a 2-1 triumph over Chelsea during Juande Ramos’ brief reign.
Elsewhere in Wednesday’s draw, big-spending Manchester City travel to Second Division side Crystal Palace.
Mark Hughes’ side will fancy their chances of picking up an easy victory but a trip to Selhurst Park could result in a tricky night for Robinho and Co.
West Ham take on London rivals Millwall in what promises to be a tasty affair at Upton Park.
There is no love lost between the two clubs but bosses Gianfranco Zola and Kenny Jackett will hope all the action takes place on the pitch.
Huddersfield manager Lee Clark will look forward to a return to the north east against his former club Newcastle.
Sunderland travel to Division Three Norwich in a repeat of the 1985 final, while Stoke are away at Leyton Orient and Hull entertain Southend.
Portsmouth are at home to Division Four Hereford, who beat Charlton in the first round.
Blackburn face a tough trip to newly promoted Division Three outfit Gillingham, while Premier League newboys Wolverhampton host Swindon. — AFP
