No budget cap for F1
VALENCIA (Spain): Formula One’s 2010 championship will remain decided by points according to new regulations published on Wednesday, which left out any reference to a proposed budget cap that nearly created a breakaway series.
Governing body FIA said the drivers’ title will remain decided by total points rather than number of victories as F1 boss Bernie Ecclestone had proposed before the start of the current championship.
FIA also made a slight change to qualifying to accommodate the six new cars that are expected on the starting grid from next season, raised the minimum weight of cars, and allowed teams to continue using tire warmers.
However, there was no mention of a proposed budget cap that leading teams warned would create a two-tier series.
