Fluminense signs Urrutia
RIO DE JANEIRO: Just one week after declining to sign Patricio Urrutia, Fluminense added the Ecuador midfielder on Thursday.
Fluminense declined to sign Urrutia last week after he failed a physical.
At the time, Fluminense said it was not willing to wait the month Urrutia was expected to take to recover from recent surgery on his right knee that left an accumulation of liquid in the knee.
But "because his desire to play for Fluminense was so strong, he allowed doctors to withdraw the liquid through a small incision and this accelerated his recovery," the club said in a statement on its Web site.
As a result, the Fluminense signed him up. The statement provided no further details. "I am very happy to sign with Fluminense," the Terra Web site quoted Urrutia as saying.
"I can guarantee that there will be no lack of determination on my part to help the team improve its situation."
Fluminense is in last place in the 20-team Brazilian league, with just three wins and seven draws in 21 games.
