Wolves hurdle for League Cup holders Man United
LONDON: League Cup holders Manchester United will start their bid to retain the trophy against Wolverhampton in the third round at Old Trafford.
Alex Ferguson’s side were paired with the newly-promoted Premier League club in yesterday’s draw.
Elsewhere fallen giants Leeds United, currently playing in Division Three, host Liverpool in the tie of the round.
Chelsea face west London neighbours QPR and Arsenal are at home to West Bromwich Albion.
Manchester City take on Fulham, Sunderland play Birmingham, West Ham travel to Bolton and Everton are at Hull in four all-Premier League ties.
Tottenham, who lost last season’s final 4-1 on penalties to United at Wembley, are away to Preston.
There is a chance of an upset at Carlisle, where the third division team entertain Portsmouth, while Stoke entertain Division Two club Blackpool, who shocked Wigan in the last round.
Port Vale, the only Division Four club still in the competition, have a tie away to Scunthorpe after putting another Division Two side, Sheffield Wednesday, out in the second round.
