Encorp aid comes in handy for Azlan
KUALA LUMPUR: National No.1 squash player Mohd Azlan Iskandar got a timely boost in a bid to raise his game in the second half of the year.
Yesterday, Azlan, the world No. 13, received RM40,000 from his sponsor Encorp Berhad (Encorp), which will cover some of his travel expenses for several upcoming international tournaments.
The cheque was presented by Encorp group chief executive officer Yeoh Soo Ann yesterday.
Said Azlan: “This contribution from Encorp will certainly encourage and spur me on further to represent Malaysia and perform my best in all the squash tournaments left in my schedule from now until mid-December.”
The tournaments are the Colombian Open, British Open, Petro Sport Open, Hong Kong Open, World Open, Spanish Open, Dutch Open, the Qatar Classic and Saudi Open.
Azlan experienced mixed fortune in his career over the last month.
He did the country proud when he won a bronze medal in the World Games in Kaohsiung, Taiwan two weeks ago but last week, he suffered a shock first round defeat in the Malaysian Open in Kuala Lumpur.
