Hosts Malaysia out to impress in ASFF U-15 tourney
PETALING JAYA: Hosts Malaysia are hoping to make a strong impression in the Asian Schools Football Federation (ASFF) Under-15 championship in Kota Kinabalu from Aug 12-18.
The team, comprising mostly players from the Bukit Jalil Sports School (BJSS), are aiming to qualify for their first-ever final since 2004.
Coach Zulakbal Abdul Karim said that despite the tough draw, they had the material to improve on their third-place finish in 2005 and last year.
Nine teams will compete in the tournament, with defending champions China, Vietnam, Sri Lanka, Singapore and Brunei in Group A.
Malaysia are in Group B with Thailand, Indonesia and Macau.
Education Department director-general Tan Sri Alimuddin Mohd Dom yesterday handed over the “Jalur Gemilang” to the head of the Malaysian contingent Mohd Ghazali Abdul Rahman.
