F1: Renault crashes at same spot at Singapore GP
SINGAPORE (AP): Renault driver Romain Grosjean has crashed in the first practice session at the Singapore Grand Prix, at exactly the same spot as the Renault crash at the 2008 Formula One race.
The young Frenchman, who was complaining of feeling ill prior to the session, lost control of his car at Turn 17, bringing out a red flag to end Friday's session while debris was cleared.
Nelson Piquet Jr. deliberately crashed at that same turn in the 2008 race to help Renault teammate Fernando Alonso win.
Recent revelations of that crash led to an indefinite ban for team principal Flavio Briatore, a five-year ban for chief engineer Pat Symonds and an exodus of sponsors from the team.
