Wendy looking to regain her prowess starting with Paris meet

By SHAMSHUL FITRI

Wendy: Confident of putting up a good performance in Paris.

PETALING JAYA: She has been under the radar since failing to retain the team’s gold medal in the Women’s World Championships in Las Vegas last July but seasoned bowler Wendy Chai still has the fire in her belly.

Failing to recover fully from her knee operation in 2008, Wendy has kept a low profile. Besides the Las Vegas meet, she only took part in the Singapore Open last year.

The 33-year-old Wendy believes she is almost back at her best and is happy to be given a chance to gauge where she stands when she takes part in the Brusnwick Euro Challenge in Paris.

The Paris meet from March 5-14 will be Wendy’s first international assignment since returning empty-handed from Las Vegas last year.

And the former World Ranking Masters champion seeks to regain her prowess when she competes with a stellar cast of European and Professional Bowlers Association (PBA) players in Paris.

“It has been a long while since I took part in an international tournament and I’m just happy to go this time.

“I know I’m not back at my best yet but at least it should serve as a good warm-up ahead of the Malaysian Open,” said Wendy.

The Malaysian Open is set to take place at the Sunway Megalanes in Sunway Pyramid from March 12-20.

Wendy said she is confident of getting good results in Paris, despite being up against top bowlers from Europe and the United States.

“Since last December, I have started using a new wrist guard and I was struggling to adapt to it at first until the National Championships in January when I made the semi-finals.

“Things have been a lot better ever since and I’m confident I can put up a good performance in Paris” she said.

Meanwhile, national coach Holloway Cheah said all necessary preparations have been done and its up to the bowlers to show their mettle in Paris when they take the lanes tomorrow.

“They have been training on the different oiling patterns since last week and everything seems fine. I’ve made minor changes to their equipment to better suit the oiling patterns and I’m hoping for positive results,” said Holloway who left with the team for Paris last night.
