MBPJ in knockout stage with win over MWHA

KUALA LUMPUR: Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) defeated the national women’s team (MWHA) 3-0 at the Tun Razak Stadium yesterday to secure a place in the knockout stage of the MHF-Milo-NSC Junior Hockey League (MJHL).
MBPJ completed their Division One league fixtures with 13 points from four wins, a draw and four defeats.
With the win yesterday, MBPJ will finish among top five in the nine-team league.
The knockout stage features five team from Division One and three from Division Two.
MWHA are making their debut in the competition and they have yet to secure a point in four matches.
MBPJ, who won the overall title in 2006, went on the offensive and took a 2-0 lead in the first 19 minutes of the match with goals by Mohd Rashid Baharom (11th) and Mohd Faizal Shafiq.
They made it 3-0 with a field goal by Mohd Fahmi Ashari in 37th minute.
MBPJ assistant team manager Zanal Abidin Ismail said that he was happy with his players for collecting full points to seal a place in the knockout stage.
“We have completed our league matches and we will used the next two weeks to prepare for the knockout stage,” he said.
Bandar Penawar Sports School (BPSS) Juniors edged Bukit Jalil Sports School (BJSS) Juniors 1-0 at the Bandar Penawar Stadium to keep their hopes alive for a place in the knockout stage.
The all important goal was scored by Amir Zulkarnain Ahmad Robangi off a penalty corner in the 64th minute.
BPSS Juniors are in sixth placing with nine points from six matches. They need to win one of the two remaining matches against UniKL on May 14 and MSN Kelantan on May 16 to book a place in the knockout stage.
