Penang Stallions ride into the MNBL again
GEORGE TOWN: It’s been 12 long years but the Penang Stallions Resort are finally back in the Malaysian National Basketball League (MNBL).
And they are not back just to make up the numbers.
This year’s MNBL will see Kuala Lumpur hosting the first leg on Oct 25-28, Penang the second on Nov 2-4 and Kuching the third on Nov 9-11. KL will host the grand finals on Nov 17-18. The other men’s teams competing are Westports Malaysian Dragons, Sarawak Firehorse, Perak Farmcochem and Petronas Junior.
The women’s category will see four teams vying for honours. They are KL Binapuri, Segamat Rimba Timor, KL Ruby, the Singapore National Team.
Penang Basketball Association (PBA) president Ooi Khoon Yeong, a former national player, said his team are ready to stamp their mark on the national scene again.
The PBA have hired two professionals Americans – 1.90m-tall Philip Turner and 2.08m-tall Uche Echefu – to help boost their challenge.
The duo are expected to fly in next week.
