Golfer Miyazato has a good sense of fashion
WOMEN and fashion are almost inseparable. While tennis stars Maria Sharapova and Caroline Wozniacki are icons in this department, golf too has its fair share of women with a good sense in fashion.
Japans Ai Miyazato (pic) is probably one of the most recognisable Asian golfers on the LPGA Tour. And her love for shopping and clothes are also a well known fact.
When she’s not on the golf course, the Okinawa-born Miyazato loves to shop – be it at Barneys New York or online even while she’s on on the Tour.
“I always love to shop, especially for clothes and accessories. It is fun to go to the mall looking for new things and it is a way of taking my mind off golf,” said Miyazato.
“I do go shopping while I’m on tour. But I don’t do it all the time as golf still comes first,” she added with a smile.
The world No. 7 has nine LPGA titles under her belt, with her most recent win coming at the Walmart NW Arkansas Championship in July this year.
She is currently playing in the Sime Darby LPGA Malaysia at the KL Golf and Country Club.
Miyazato has been shopping in Malaysia too, although she has not purchased any unique Malaysian trinkets yet.
Her penchant for accessories and knee length socks have also attracted attention but the petite 27-year-old claims her Tour stage socks are actually sun protectors that double up almost like a compression sock to help support her calves during play.
“For accessories, I like girlie things like earring and rings with hearts. But I believe many if not all women love fashion and accessories, right?” said Miyazato.
Interestingly, Miyazato also wears earrings handmade by her mother Toyoko.
“My mom is 61 and just started making earrings recently. She is very talented and creative person.”
“I’m not a very superstitious person so I don’t wear them for any special reason but she makes many cute ones and it feels great knowing they are the only ones in the world,” added Miyazato who picked up golf at the age of four.
Of her LPGA Tour mates, Miyazato admires the likes of Pink Panther Paula Creamer who is notoriously known for her love of the colour pink and compatriot Momoko Ueda.
“I really like Paula and Momoko’s styles. They really look well in their golf attire. But there are many other players with their original style in fashion,” said Miyazato.
