LOCAL golfers Danny Chia (pic) and Shaaban Hussin seemed destined to finish as also-rans in the CIMB Classic after yet another disappointing round at the Mines Resort and Golf Club yesterday.

Danny stayed in 45th position after firing a two-over 73 for a three-day total of 214.

Shaaban shares 46th position – three strokes adrift of Danny – with Scott Henk of Australia.

Shaaban fired a one under-70 for a three-round total of 217.

Danny had three birdies at the second, eighth and 15th holes. But bogeys in the first, seventh and 12th evened things up while the double bogey at the ninth meant he finished the day two-over.

Danny said he did not change his game plan but “my putts didn’t work that well”.

“I hit a lot of good drives but misjudged my second shots. That cost me a lot of strokes,” he said.

“Obviously I am still trying my best to push myself to hole my putts but I didn’t get any luck on the greens.

“I have had a lot of lip-outs. I am just going to go out there and enjoy myself in the final round.

For Shaaban, it was a much better round compared to the previous two days when he scored 74 and 73 respectively.

His birdies yesterday came at the second, eighth and 18th while he bogeyed the third and 16th.

“My game was good today and I did not make that many mistakes. But I didn’t get much distance on my ball,” he said.

“As long as I can get the ball on to the fairway, I have a chance at scoring. My short game was fantastic.”
