Taufiq confident of great show in hometown
PETALING JAYA: Homeground advantage will play a crucial role in Mohd Taufiq Roslan’s performance in Round 8 of the Petronas AAM Malaysian Cub Prix championship at the Hang Jebat Stadium in Malacca this weekend.
The Yamaha Maju Motor Racing rider believes racing in front of his family members and supporters will spur him on to only his third podium finish after Round 2 in Terengganu and Round 7 in Kluang last month.
“I am sure racing at home will spur me to another podium finish in the CP130 class event,” said a confident Taufiq.
Azlan Shah Kamaruzaman (Harian Metro Y-TEQ SCK Honda Racing) leads the CP130 class overall standings with 120 points, followed by Faito Motobert Racing’s Ahmad Fuad Baharuddin (97) and team-mate Ahmad Fazrul Sham (91). Taufiq is in seventh spot with 68 points.
Taufiq said luck played a big role in his podium finish in Kluang in the last round.
“Yes, I got lucky in Kluang. If not for Mohd Affendi Rosli’s technical issues and Ahmad Fazrul and Mohd Zaqhwan Zaidi’s (Pachie Yuzy Honda Racing) jump-start penalties, it would have been hard for me to get on the podium. But the team also did a great job with the bike set-up,” he said.
