Fitri puts aside self glory to help team-mate Azlan consolidate lead
PETALING JAYA: Mohd Fitri Ashraf Razali will not race for himself in Round 8 of the Petronas AAM Malaysian Cub Prix Championships in Malacca tomorrow.
Instead Fitri, who is sixth in the CP130 standings with 69 points, will be helping fellow Harian Metro Y-TEQ SCK Honda team-mate Azlan Shah Kamaruzaman to consolidate his lead at the top.
Azlan leads with 120 points but is being chased hard by Faito Motobert Racing duo Ahmad Fuad Baharuddin (97pts) and Ahmad Fazrul Sham (91).
“Since the start of the season, our goal was clear – defend the title ... and now we are in a good position with Azlan leading the standings,” said Fitri.
“He is under a lot of pressure because Fuad and Fazrul are fast gaining on him and constantly improving. That’s why I’ve decided to back him up in the remaining races this season.”
Last season, Harian Metro Y-TEQ SCK won the title through Norizman Ismail.
“Besides the individual crown, we also want to win the Best Team Award. We are in control of the team overall standings for now but Faito Motobert Racing are very close – just a point behind,” said Fitri.
Harian Metro Y-TEQ SCK leads the team standings with 189 points.
