Fouche boots Bulls off bottom of table
JOHANNESBURG: Louis Fouche kicked 21 points as the Blue Bulls moved away from the bottom of the Currie Cup table to fourth place with a comfortable 26-13 victory over Western Province in Pretoria Friday.
The fly-half slotted two penalties in a first half which ended with the home team 11-3 ahead and five more after the break with the other points coming from a try by right wing Akona Ndungane in the corner.
A penalty try was awarded to Province after the Bulls were repeatedly penalised while defending desperately, and fly-half Demetri Catrakilis kicked the conversion and two penalties.
Bulls, winners of the South African championship 23 times, have battled this season with several first choices on Springbok duty, and entered the penultimate round fixture against Province bottom of the six-team table.
They visit defending champions Golden Lions next and could finish as high as third, sealing a semi-finals place, or as low as sixth, forcing them into a promotion-relegation play-off against the second division champions. - AFP
