Verdasco, Kohlschreiber win in Shanghai
SHANGHAI: Former top ten player Fernando Verdasco of Spain eased into the second round of the Shanghai Masters on Sunday alongside 16th seed Philipp Kohlschreiber of Germany.
Verdasco saw off the challenge of Japan's Go Soeda 6-2, 6-4 on a low-key first day of the event before Kohlschreiber beat Ryan Harrison of the United States 6-4, 6-4.
Verdasco hit six aces and saved five of six break points and will next meet seventh-seeded Argentine Juan Monaco while Kohlschreiber will face Spaniard Feliciano Lopez or Alejandro Falla of Colombia.
The Shanghai Masters is being headlined by world number one Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic and US Open champion Andy Murray, all of whom have first-round byes.- AFP
