Creditable debut by teenager Rahul
PETALING JAYA: Sixteen-year-old Rahul Raj Mayer (pic) enjoyed a creditable debut in single-seater racing with two fourth placings in the Formula Gulf 1000 Championship at the Dubai Autodrome last weekend.
Although he missed out on the podium, Rahul impressed his team when he improved on his timing for every session he was out on the track.
Rahul said he had a good learning experience from the season opening two races.
“I learned a lot about the Ralph Firman-designed single-seater car and the precision required to get the best out of it.
“The one-to-one training provided by driver development trainer Andy Pardoe during the race weekend helped us to improve and overcome all our shortcomings.
“This is the best hands-on approach for drivers starting their first single-seater careers,” said Rahul, who is eyeing a podium at the Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi from Dec 6-7.
