Azlan Shah grabs first pole of the season at Sentul circuit
PETALING JAYA: Azlan Shah Kamaruzaman stormed to his first pole position of the season in the SuperSports 600cc of the Petronas Asia Road Racing Championships at the Sentul International Circuit in Indonesia yesterday.
The Musashi Boon Siew Honda rider clocked the fastest time of 1:30.527 in the qualifying session.
Team-mate Ryuichi Kiyonari will start second in the grid after posting 1:30.635 while defending champion Katsuaki Fujiwara (Manual Tech BEET Kawasaki Racing) completes the front row (1:30.819).
“It was a very tough qualifying session because I had to go head-to-head with Kiyonari for pole,” said Azlan.
Mohd Amirul Musa will start from pole in the Underbone 115cc after breaking the Sentul lap record.
The Pachie Yuzy Honda Racing rider clocked 1:56.994 to better defending champion Rafid Topan’s mark of 1:57.531.
Completing the front row are local riders Rey Ratukore (Nissin R9 KYT Federal Oil BRT) and H.A. Yudhistira (Kawasaki KYT Rextor Manual Tech).
In the Asia Dream Cup, Malaysian rider Sasitharen Sukumaran will start from second row having qualified fifth fastest.
