Zulfahmi finishes a disappointing ninth
PETALING JAYA: It was a sunny day at the Silverstone circuit in England but it failed to give Malaysian Moto3 rider Mohd Zulfahmi Khairuddin a glimpse of his first podium finish.
Starting from eighth on the grid for the British Grand Prix, theAirAsia-SIC-Ajo rider could only finish ninth behind winner Maverick Vinales of Blusens Avintia.
Vinales completed the 17-lap race in 38:55.210 – 9.208 seconds ahead of Zulfahmi.
Zulfahmi holds his seventh position in the standings with 44 points after six rounds. Vinales leads with 105 points.
An exciting battle for podium spots between Vinales, second placed Sandro Cortese (Red Bull KTM Ajo) and Louis Salom (RW Racing) saw the trio pull away with five laps to go.
Zulfahmi fought valiantly and a desperate move down the final bend saw him overtake Miguel Olivera (Estrella Galicia) for ninth spot.
