11th placing for Zulfahmi
PETALING JAYA: Malaysian Moto3 rider Mohd Zulfahmi Khairuddin battled hard at the Dutch MotoGP to finish 11th at the Assen circuit.
The AirAsia-SIC-Ajo rider had a difficult qualifying on Friday, which resulted in him starting the race from the fifth row in 18th spot.
“There was a slight vibration problem with the bike and it didn’t feel good,” said Zulfahmi of his qualifying session.
But Zulfahmi can still walk tall as he chalked the fastest lap time of 1:44.004 – the first ever Malaysian to set a circuit lap record.
In the race yesterday, Zulfahmi rode strongly from the start. But as soon as eventual winner Maverick Vinales (Blusens Avintia) and Sandro Cortese (Red Bull KTM Ajo) set a fiery front-running pace with five others, Zulfahmi found himself trailing in the second group.
The next race will be the German GP at Sachsenring on July 8.
