Zaqhwan grabs pole position
PETALING JAYA: Pachie Yuzy Honda Racing rider Mohd Zaqhwan Zaidi overcame unpredictable weather to clock the fastest time in the final practice session of the Petronas AAM Malaysian Cub Prix Championships at Stadium Sultan Ibrahim in Muar yesterday.
Zaqhwan displayed superior pace at the new Cub Prix venue by setting a benchmark of 41.172 on his 19th lap, while championship leader Azlan Shah Kamaruzaman (Harian Metro Y-TEQ SCK Honda Racing) and Mohd Zamri Baba (Petronas Syntium Moto Yamaha Raceline) were second and third in 41.476 and 41.497 respectively.
Zaqhwan’s teammate Mohd Amirul Ariff Musa’s recorded the fastest lap time in the CP115 practice session with 42.279 on his ninth lap before crashing out.
Petronas Syntium Moto Yamaha AHM rider Shahril Izzuwan Mohd Noor clocked the second fastest time of 42.389 while Suzuki FortyOne Racing rider Elly Idzliaikmal Ilias completed the top three in 42.442.
Mohd Hafiz Nor Azman put on a scintillating run in the Wira category as he was the only rider to clock under 42 seconds, matching the lap time posted by seniors in the CP115.
The Mos Track Pro Yamaha Racing rider clocked 42.543 on his 11th lap followed by Tengku Amirul Haffiruddin (Motul Yamaha YY Pang Racing) who was second fastest in 43.076. Che Ku Amriq Asyraff came third in 43.179.
